Acupuncture for Treatment of Pain, Acupuncture for Weight Loss and Acupuncture to Stop Smoking
There is a misconception that there is pain associated with acupuncture. If you have a skilled practitioner in this healing art, and it is an art, there should be zero to minimal pain. Acupuncture is one of the greatest de-stressors available. It is based on subtle changes in the central nervous system with progressive increases in the secretion of neuro-transmitters, such as serotonin and endorphins, in particular. With the release of these chemicals, there is stimulation to the adrenal glands that secrete cortisol, the bodies own stress-fighting, anti-inflammatory hormone. This hormone plays an important role in immune function, regulation of blood pressure and proper glucose metabolism, to name a few. With treatment, you may see improved energy and biochemical balance which promotes physical, mental and emotional well-being. With the release of these chemicals, it may explain why acupuncture treats pain. There have been many studies done on this subject. It is becoming more accepted and a scientifically validated treatment modality for pain relief in particular. Acupuncture is gaining acceptance in the western medical community and also with insurance companies.

Acupuncture, a complimentary medicine.
Acupuncture is over 3,000 years old and has stood the test of time. It has only been known in America since the 1970’s. Acupuncture is commonly practiced in China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and other parts of Asia, as well Russia, Europe, England and Australia. Some of these countries have a lot more population than North America and they have effectively controlled the populations healthcare with primary healing modalities, such as acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Acupuncture works well for many conditions combined with western medical treatment. Why not use the best of both worlds for your healthcare?

Does Acupuncture Hurt? We use painless acupuncture needles.
Acupuncture Now practices painless acupuncture which benefits both the patient and the practitioner. The patient has a decreased stress response and the practitioner gets better results with treatment and compliance. Most people don’t feel when the needles are inserted; others feel a mild sensation. Once inserted, they are left for 20-30 minutes. During this time there is a release of many chemicals that help induce relaxation, wellbeing and stress reduction.
What do the needles look like?
They are thin, flexible and made of surgical grade stainless steel. They resemble a fine hair or thread. Your health and safety are of the utmost importance for us. The acupuncture needles we use come pre-sterilized and pre-packaged from the manufacturer. I use the highest quality needles available from Germany and Japan. These countries have the better machining techniques for painless acupuncture in my opinion. They are disposable and for single use only and in accordance with the FDA.
Do I have to believe in Acupuncture for it to work?
No, Acupuncture has been used successfully for dogs, cats and horses. These animals are impartial to a positive or negative outlook on the experience that helps them get better. However, a positive belief in anything is always helpful.
How many treatments do I need?
This all depends on how long you have had your condition. You usually get benefit form one treatment, but the standard course is six-to-ten treatments. A maintenance course may then be prescribed. Remember, acupuncture is energetic reprogramming of the body and nervous system. It may take a series of treatments to get your body to the level you would like it.
